ACCESS STATEMENT

THE UNICORN HOTEL, MARKET PLACE, RIPON, HG4 1BP

The Unicorn Hotel stands on the market square in the centre of Ripon.

We have 30 ensuite rooms offering double, twin, family and single rooms.  We look forward to welcoming you and making your stay an enjoyable one.

We offer the following services and facilities:

PRE ARRIVAL

·        For assistance prior to arrival please contact the reservations team on 01765 602202

·        There is a tax rank situated just outside the front entrance and we can make a booking for you.

·        The main bus station is within 5 minutes walking distance.

·        We have a website.

·        You can contact the hotel by telephone, fax, E.mail or in person.

ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING FACILITIES

·        The hotel has a front and rear entrance with no steps and doors that can be held open magnetically.

·        There are bells at the front and rear doors of the hotel which are low and suitable for wheelchair use.

·        Guests can be dropped off close to the front door and there is a dropped kerb nearby.  There is a disabled parking bay directly in front of the hotel, which, subject to availability, can be used by blue permit holders any day of the week.  The rest of the market square can be parked in free and without time limit by blue badge holders except on Thursday when the square is used for market day.  Entrance into the hotel from the front is over a smooth surface and through double doors.

·        There is a small car park situated at the rear of the hotel.  There is a single 10cm step into the hotel at the rear entrance.  This entrance is narrow (circa 65cm wide) and is therefore unlikely to be suitable for most types of wheel chair.  However if this access is used a portable ramp is available.

·        If you require assistance with luggage staff on reception are happy to help you.

·        There are no lifts in the hotel.

MAIN ENTRANCE AND RECEPTION

·        There are no steps within the reception area.

·        When entering through the front door the reception desk is situated on your right hand side.

• There is a sitting area in reception. 
• The staff are happy to help with completion of our registration card.
• The floor in the reception area is carpeted.
• The front door is locked after 11.30pm.  A key can be provided for residents.
• A night porter is on duty on Friday and Saturday nights.

RESTAURANT

·        The main restaurant is located to the rear of the reception area.   

·        There is a wide level access into the restaurant

·        The restaurant is table service only

·        The furniture can be moved on request.

·        The seating is mixed.  There are benches and chairs with no arms.  There are chairs without arms at the entrance to the restaurant and elsewhere and they can be brought into the restaurant if required.

·        Lighting is a mixture of natural daylight and overhead spotlights whilst for the evening meal lighting is low level with candles on the tables.  Lighting can be increased at certain tables if required.

·        We are able to cater for varying dietary needs, please advise staff on booking.

BARS

·        The hotel has two bars.

·        1100 Bar:  Is situated to the left of the reception desk and has level access.

·        Tom Crudd’s Bar:  There are two main entrances to this bar, from the street entrance there are three steps down.  However there is level access which includes a gentle slope via the reception area.  There are two steps between Tom Crudd’s and the 1100 Bars.

·        Table service is offered in both bars.

·        There is a selection of seating of various heights, bench seating, stools and chairs with arms.  Chairs without arms can be provided if required.

PUBLIC AREAS

·        A water bowl for dogs can be provided on request.

Toilets

• There are ladies and gentlemen’s toilets on the ground floor.
• The toilets are located through a door and up one step.
• A grab rail is provided close to the steps.
• One cubicle in both the Ladies and Gentlemen’s has a grab rail.

Laundry

·        We do not offer a laundry service but items can be laundered on request.

Shop

·        Not available within the hotel.  The hotel is situated in the market square with good access to banks, supermarkets and a wide range of shops.

Leisure Facilities

·        Not available within the hotel.

·        There are facilities for swimming, golf, fishing and many tourist attractions nearby. 

·        The hotel staff are happy to advise guests.

Outdoor Facilities

·        Not available

UPSTAIRS

·        The hotel is an old building and bedrooms are located on three floors.

·        Some floors have a slight slope.

SITTING ROOM AND THE CONFERENCE ROOD

·        The hotel sitting room is located on the first floor and is only accessible by a staircase.

·        The conference room (De Grey Room) is located on the first floor and is only accessible  by a staircase.

BEDROOMS

·        All our 30 bedrooms are upstairs

·        All bedrooms are ensuite and have televisions with remote controls

·        All bedrooms have tea and coffee making facilities

·        All bedding is non feather

·        Flooring is short pile carpet

·        Lighting levels are controllable

·        The furniture is flexible in the rooms and items can be moved on request

·        Non smoking rooms

·        Twin or double bed and single bed combinations are available

·        Housekeeping staff are aware of procedures to aid privacy

·        Emergency procedures are clearly written in large print
